SunSport has claimed that Hoops winger Liel Abada will be out for about a month owing to a recent injury, which can only be characterized as a setback to Celtic’s near-term goals.
Abada was returned to Scotland from the camp of the Israeli national team after being transferred there for medical evaluation, and it appears the prognosis is not good.
There is no worse time for Brendan Rodgers and his Celtic team than this protracted absence. The Hoops have a demanding schedule ahead of them, which includes several domestic league games as well as a crucial Champions League matchup against Feyenoord on September 19. Abada won’t be missed at all on the pitch.
The Israeli international had been doing a remarkable job of replacing Jota’s shoes and had established himself as an important part of Celtic’s attacking strategies. Rodgers’ month-long break will now compel him to reconsider his tactics and perhaps place a greater emphasis on adding new players.
The news is definitely depressing, but it also acts as a rallying cry for the rest of the team. In order to prevent the club from losing its momentum in both domestic and European competitions, other players will need to step up and fill the vacuum created by Abada’s absence.
