Latest Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as transfer of young midfielder is understood to be imminent
Aston Villa is about to announce the exciting kid Freddie Lawrie’s transfer from Port Vale.
After an agreement was struck between Villa and Vale, the central midfielder will reportedly be a club record deal for a schoolboy player.
According to reports, Villa negotiated a deal for the under-15s academy player despite competition from many other Premier League clubs.
The deal was the focus of a “exclusive” story by the website Football Insider, but now the information has been corroborated by others familiar with the negotiations. Villa has not disclosed specifics on the compensation fee they will give Lawrie.
Once his departure is official, Lawrie will become the second player from the Vale academy to earn a high-paying move to the Premier League in recent weeks, following Michael Mills’ transfer to Newcastle United. Lawrie first caught the attention of observers with some exceptional performances for the Valiants at the underage level.
Lawrie will undoubtedly be wanting to follow in the footsteps of players like Tim Iroegbunam and Jacob Ramsey, who are both a part of Unai Emery’s first-team setup at Villa Park. The Villa academy has a fantastic reputation for developing great talent.
Top academy prospects like Cameron Archer and Aaron Ramsey recently transferred to rival Premier League teams, but only after buy-back clauses were approved in their contracts. In contrast, Villans have received large transfer fees for players like Jack Grealish and Carney Chukwuemeka.
Lawrie still has a long way to go before achieving that level, but he will be hopeful he has made a huge first step in the right direction.
