According to insiders who spoke to Football Insider, Gio Reyna’s progress at Nottingham Forest will be watched closely by the top six Premier League teams.
Transfer correspondent Pete O’Rourke said in an interview with the latest episode of Football Insider’s Insider Track Podcast that if the highly-rated attacker succeeds in the top flight, large teams may take notice of him.
Forest agreed a deal late in the window with Borussia Dortmund to take the ace on loan for the rest of the season.
However, there is no obligation to buy, meaning he could be sold to another side after his time at the City Ground.
He has had an impressive four years at the Bundesliga giants since joining from MLS side New York City FC in 2019.
Reyna has risen through the ranks at Dortmund and has made 121 appearances in all competitions, scoring 17 goals and providing 16 assists
This season, he has struggled to earn starts after returning from injury four weeks into the season.
He made just one start in the Bundesliga out of 15 overall appearances, but big English clubs are expected to be interested in a move in the summer should he revive his form outside of Germany.
Reyna’s versatility has allowed him to play on both flanks and in attacking midfield this season.
He is an established member of the USMNT, having made 24 appearances since his debut in November 2020.
Nottingham Forest sit 16th in the Premier League table following their 2-1 defeat to title challengers Arsenal on Tuesday (30 January).
They are next back in action on Sunday afternoon (4 February) when they travel to play Bournemouth.
