Cincinnati (WXIX) – Reentering the NFL is longtime Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Lewis, who led Cincinnati from 2003 to 2018, is joining the Las Vegas Raiders as an assistant head coach.
Lewis received the 2009 AP Coach of the Year and had a record of 131-122-3 while coaching the Bengals.
He made seven trips to the playoffs with Cincinnati. From 2011 to 2015, the Bengals and Lewis qualified for the postseason five times in a row.
But the Bengals under Lewis have little to no success in the postseason. He had a 0–7 playoff record.
Lewis was fired by the Bengals after the 2018 season, in which the team finished 6-10.
In 2019, he became a special advisor at Arizona State. Lewis returned to his position as a special advisor from 2021 to 2023 after being designated the Sundevils’ co-defensive coordinator in 2020.
He collaborated with Antonio Pierce, the current head coach of the Raiders, at Arizona State.
After leading the team to a 5-4 record in his brief tenure as temporary coach, Pierce was named Las Vegas’ new head coach this summer.
In the 2024 season, Lewis will get the opportunity to coach against both his predecessor and his successor, Zac Taylor.
