The 28-year-old returned to training this week after completing his rehabilitation from his third cruciate knee ligament injury of his career.

Cohen told BBC East Midlands Today, “It’s been difficult for it to happen three times almost in a row.””I know I can change the way I play a bit, adapt a little bit and show other qualities that I know I have got.”

Cohen, who joined Forest from Yeovil in July 2007, made nine appearances in 2011-12 before suffering an injury in a 2-1 home loss to Derby County.

After playing the entire 2012-13 season, he played in 17 games the next season before being hurt against Burnley at the City Ground in November 2013.

He returned for the start of the 2014-15 season, but six games in – again at home against Derby – he sustained his third long-term injury.

“I am only 28 years old, and I have always been slow,” Cohen joked. “I’m not going to slow down.” If I slowed down, I’d be sprinting backwards.

“I know I can play a variety of positions for a long time, which is nice, but obviously I have to stay healthy.”

“The club, chairman, and manager have all been fantastic to me, as have the fans, and I hope to repay their kindness.”
