Ben Pearson, a midfielder for Stoke City, says the team will take advantage of the break to “mentally refresh” following a challenging start to the year.
Alex Neil, the Potters’ manager, has added 18 players to the team since the end of the previous campaign.
Having won just three of their 11 league games, Stoke is currently in the twenty-first position in the Championship, two points above the bottom three.
Pearson, 28, said on BBC Radio Stoke, “I think everyone is frustrated.”
“When you’re not getting results, it’s frustrating for the staff, the players, and the fans.
“But you’ve just got to keep plugging away, don’t give in, trust the process and we’ll be fine.”
Their last win, a 3-2 triumph against Bristol City at the end of September, was their only one since defeating Watford on August 19. Stoke’s 2-0 loss to league-leaders Leicester City on Sunday marked their third Championship loss in four games.
The size of the changes at the club, according to Pearson, who was one of the many players brought in this summer, are a key mitigating factor in how they have fared thus far.
“I’ve said it for a while now it’s going to take time to gel,” he stated.
“I don’t believe the quantity of games we’ve played or the dearth of instruction to help players become accustomed to the system have been helpful. Injuries obviously haven’t helped.
We occasionally display a positive side, and other
Wilmot, a defender for Stoke, will miss three months.
Ciaran Clark, a former defender for Newcastle and Aston Villa, is the most recent player to join the team. According to Pearson, being a part of the squad refresh has its benefits.
“It’s a breath of fresh air sometimes when new lads come in,” he stated.
“We’ve got a breather now – we’ve had a lot of games in the last month – so it’s time to mentally refresh.”
After the break for international play, Stoke’s next Championship game is at home against Sunderland on Saturday, October 21.
