The promoted club bounce was once popular, since the sparkle of promotion lingered into August and beyond.
Bournemouth defeated Aston Villa on the first weekend of last season. Brentford and Watford both won their first games the year before. We had to wait until the second weekend in the previous two seasons since Leeds United, Norwich City, and Sheffield United all won.
Winter? That would be a lengthy and difficult journey. Winter, on the other hand, could wait.

The complicating element is that half of their team is new. The world chuckled when Nottingham Forest recruited 20 players last summer; Burnley signed 15.
This is roughly what we predicted for Sheffield United and Luton Town. Anything less would have been overkill. Paul Heckingbottom’s squad is now poorer than it was when he was promoted.
Cameron Archer entered the room, but Iliman Ndiaye left. Gustavo Heram had a strong start, but they lost James McAtee and Tommy Doyle. Sander Berge had been sold.
Sheffield United’s top goal scorer, top two assist providers, and second and third most chance makers from last season have all left the club. They signed one defender on a permanent basis, and he’s already played four league minutes.

But we’re looking at things incorrectly. Luton has spent the last decade making amends for the previous one. In the Championship in 2019-20, their records showed a £3 million profit. When they bought Croatian custodian Simon Sluga in 2019, it was a first in 18 years since it was the first time they had spent more than £1 million on a single transfer price.
