Ex-Aberdeen hitman Sam Cosgrove wants to hit the ground running with new club Barnsley and is hoping to help the Tykes win promotion back to the English Championship. The striker completed a switch to Oakwell from Birmingham City on deadline day in the summer transfer window, with the EFL League One club set to be his fifth team in the past two and a half years.

After leaving Pittodrie in January 2021 (having scored an impressive 46 goals in 103 matches) Cosgrove failed to establish himself at Birmingham and spent time away from the club on loan at Shrewsbury, AFC Wimbledon and Plymouth Argyle. The Englishman helped the latter win promotion to the Championship last season, scoring 12 goals in 40 matches in all competitions as the Pilgrims also reached the final of the EFL Trophy

Cosgrove is desperate to settle down and make his spell with Barnsley a long one and says his promotion success with Plymouth last season has spurred him onto achieve the same objectives with his new club. Speaking to the Barnsley Chronicle, he said: “I want to make Oakwell my home now after a turbulent couple of years with not getting settled anywhere.”
