The Italian outlet posted the update on their live transfer blog covering deadline day on Friday (1 September).

Everton have been in for Gnonto all through the summer, and the Italy international went as far as to hand in a transfer request at Elland Road (Sky Sports, 18 August

It looked as though a deal was dead in the water and Gnonto was welcomed back into the fold at Elland Road, and he played in the 4-3 win at Ipswich Town and the penalty shootout defeat to Salford City in the EFL Cup.

However, it now appears as though Everton will land one of their top targets after all, with the imminent sale of Alex Iwobi to Fulham perhaps funding this last-ditch signing

There are sagas in every window, but boy this one has been a saga in every sense of the word. Gnonto has refused to play matches, handed in a transfer request, his agent has spoken of his desire to leave. You name the tactic, they have tried it.

From Everton’s point of view, this signing can only be a good thing. They needed a lot of reinforcement in the final third after they were second-lowest goalscorers in the Premier League last term

Now, they have signed Beto, Jack Harrison, Arnaut Danjuma and Youssef Chermiti, and it looks as though Gnonto is going to strengthen their options too.

Gnonto is still a player who needs blooding, who needs time, but it does feel like a good signing for Everton. Sean Dyche has seen his side fail to score in three Premier League games so far and, frankly, there can be no excuses if Everton do not start firing soon
