Neither player had trained prior to Eddie Howe’s pre-match news conference on Friday morning, and the Magpies’ head coach stated that a late decision on their health will be made.

“Sven had a scan, and the scan doesn’t look too good, so there is definitely an injury there,” Howe explained. “It’s not looking too bad; it’s bruised and a little swollen.”
“He’s only been jogging lightly this week, so we’ll see how he feels today and make a decision before the weekend.” Yes, there’s a chance [he’ll play against Brighton].”

Newcastle have not won in their last six visits to the Amex Stadium. Brighton won both of their first two games, 4-1 against Luton Town and Wolves, but fell to West Ham United at home last weekend.
