Nottingham Forest ‘agree’ swap deal with Italian club

Nottingham Forest have reached an “agreement in principle” with Bologna for midfielder Nico Dominguez, it is claimed.

European transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed reports by fellow transfer expert César Luis Merlo that the 25-year-old central midfielder will be part of a swap deal with Remo Freuler going the other way to the Serie A side “if all goes to plan in negotiations” with the Reds today (Wednesday).

Dominguez has been linked with a move to the City Ground this summer, with reports earlier this month claiming that a deal for the Argentina international was ‘close’. The player made 35 appearances for the Italian club last term, scoring three goals and has featured in all of Bologna’s matches in league and cup so far this season, wearing the captain’s armband in two of the three games.

The Daily Mail have also reported that Freuler will be part of the deal. The Forest man has been an unused substitute for all three Premier League matches so far this season.

Bologna were reported to have initially submitted an official offer to Forest for Freuler, which would have seen the midfielder join the club on loan with an option to buy next summer. It now seems that Forest’s interest in Dominguez has led to further talks over a possible swap deal.

Freuler was one of the arrivals of a busy summer window one year ago, joining from Italian side Atalanta. The 31-year-old played a total of 28 times in the Premier League, but was an unused substitute for the final six games as the Reds secured their safety.
