Derby County are looking to bolster their attacking options before the end of the transfer window and could turn to the Championship man
Kelly, 26, has made three appearances for Rotherham so far this season under Matt Taylor and still has two years left on his contract at the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
However, The Sunday Mirror reporter Witcoop has claimed (see below) that the Rams are ‘watching developments’ between now and the deadline on Friday 1st September.
Derby boss Paul Warne knows Kelly well and signed him for his former club Rotherham back in January 2022. He has since scored five goals in 35 games for the Millers in all competitions and helped them gain promotion from League One in his first term at the club.
The attacker was then part of their squad who managed to stay up in the Championship in the last campaign as they look to do the same this year.
Prior to his move to England, Kelly spent his whole career to date playing in Ireland. He had spells at Derry City, UCD, Dundalk, St Patrick’s Athletic and Bohemians. He was prolific for the latter and fired 26 goals in 40 outings for them before he moved to the Football League.
Derby still have some gaps to plug in their squad as they aim to get promoted to the second tier under Warne. They beat Fleetwood Town 1-0 last time out with summer striker signing Martyn Waghorn on the scoresheet but they could do with some more competition and depth up top.
