Reading is interested in Bournemouth midfielder Gavin Kilkenny, however, will face competition from Championship side Birmingham City, according to journalist mathizy zaza.
The 23-year-old has struggled to make an impact for the Cherries’ first team during his four years with the club and is looking to feature more following unsuccessful loans last season.
Featuring 14 times for Bournemouth during their promotion-winning season in 2021/22, Kilkenny spent the first half of last season on loan with Stoke City, where he only played four times for the Potters.
Looking for different options in January, the Irishmen dropped down a level with Charlton Athletic, however again struggled to find consistent playing time, featuring just eight times in the back half of the season.
A Move On The Horizon?
After an impressive pre-season which saw the Republic of Ireland U21 international play in every game, a loan move looks to be on the cards for the midfielder.
With the majority of his playing experience coming in the Championship, Kilkenny can play multiple roles in the middle of the park, with the ability to fill in at defensive midfield or play higher up.
Reading Looking To Rebound
Following a relegation that sees the Royals fall to the third tier of English football for the first time in 31 seasons, their start to League One has been back and forth. Starting the new season with back-to-back losses, Reading has rebounded from the situation with two victories of their own.
The club have already been deducted a point this season for financial issues, however, are looking to overcome that with a promising young squad.

With Kilkenny looking to be the odd man out at Bournemouth following midfielder signings, a loan move to the EFL would probably be the smartest choice for the player.
As a defensive midfielder, the Irishmen has shown talent but struggled to show it consistently. With a lack of game time over the last couple of years, Kilkenny has failed to get a consistent run in a team and will be very much looking for the opportunity wherever he next goes.
