In a blow to rival teams, the San Francisco 49ers declare they won’t transfer Brandon Aiyuk to anyone.
Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been the focus of trade rumors involving the San Francisco 49ers, but general manager John Lynch has now stated that the 49ers have no plans to part with the 2020 first-round choice.
The New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, or any other NFL team looking to add a wide receiver to their roster will not receive Brandon Aiyuk from the San Francisco 49ers, it has been made clear. The 49ers are not backing down in the face of recent allegations of Aiyuk’s dissatisfaction and his social media activities suggesting a move.
Aiyuk, who is set to begin his fifth season with a rookie contract worth $14.12 million, reportedly voiced his displeasure within the 49ers camp and even unfollowed the organization on Instagram, which sparked rumors. Talk of a potential deal intensified as the 49ers faced potential salary cap concerns in 2025.
On the Pat McAfee show, 49ers general manager John Lynch, however, shot down those rumors, stating that Aiyuk and other key players will remain in their current positions. “I’m doing everything in my power to keep this roster together,” Lynch said.
“Do discussions take place throughout drafts and offseasons? Indeed, they do. We have moved past that.
“Jacuan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, Deebo Samuel, Chris Conley, Ronnie Bell, Danny Gray, and now you add Ricky Pearsall [and 2024 fourth-round pick] Jacob Cowing, we’re pleased to add to that bunch. We strengthened a gang that was already formidable,” Lynch remarked.
“We never act in that way without considering if these guys can make a quick contribution. Additionally, we have ideas for how both Pearsall and Cowing may participate and add value, and they exemplify many of the traits we value in our players. We’re passionate about our group.”
Aiyuk publicly expressed his desire for a large salary that represents his perceived value to a team during his participation on the “Nightcap” podcast with Shannon Sharpe and Chad Ochocinco, which fueled persistent suspicions about his future. Aiyuk hinted at possible repercussions should San Francisco fail to see his value, saying that leaving could be an option.
