Surprise — Gerald Mincey has entered the transfer portal. Tennessee’s starting right tackle will explore his options elsewhere with one final year to play.
Mincey started six games this season, battling injuries down the stretch. He played at left tackle during the 2022 season, starting seven games and appearing in nine. Mincey transferred in from Florida following the 2021 season.
He was expected to return to his right tackle role for the 2023 season, but it’s possible that he’s looking for another opportunity to showcase himself at left tackle with just one season of eligibility left. Mincey’s role changed following John Campbell’s arrival one year ago, where he took over at left tackle. Campbell is set to return, along with center Cooper Mays. Tennessee is still waiting on a decision from guard Javontez Spraggins.
The portal continues to churn, and now Tennessee is in the market for a starting right tackle.
Dayne Davis is the only player left on the roster with experience at the position. Shamurad Umarov could be an option. Four-star tackle Bennett Warren will also be on campus soon. The staff will likely want a veteran option however, which they could still add out of the transfer portal if they feel like they need something other than Davis.
