Lexi Thompson, one of the most prominent figures in women’s golf, has officially brought her full-time LPGA Tour career to an end. Though she has refrained from calling it a retirement, Thompson’s announcement marks the conclusion of a remarkable journey that began when she turned professional at just 15 years old in 2010.

Over the course of her career, Thompson secured 11 LPGA Tour victories, competed in multiple Solheim Cups, and represented Team USA in two Olympic Games (2016 and 2020).

Reflecting on her legacy, Thompson expressed her desire to be remembered as more than just a skilled golfer. “I want people to think of me as someone who gave back to the game, helped grow women’s sports, and inspired kids to get involved,” she shared. Her focus has always been on leaving the sport in a better place than when she started, a goal she feels proud to have achieved.

Thompson has been a trailblazer for women’s golf, playing a pivotal role in increasing the sport’s visibility, securing higher prize purses, and fostering sponsorship opportunities.

“We’ve seen incredible growth in women’s golf since I turned pro. From gaining tournaments to better TV coverage, it’s been amazing to see the progress,” she said.

“I’ve struggled, as many do, but being open about it has led to incredible support from family, fellow players, and fans,” Thompson revealed.
