DONE DEAL;Philadelphia Eagles release another former player

As a starter for four seasons at Alabama, Pierschbacher was named to the first team of the SEC in both his left guard and centering roles in 2017.

Pierschbacher has been with Philadelphia for four weeks. On November 13, he became a member of the Eagles practice squad. This time around, the center/guard did not participate in a game while in Philadelphia.

This week, Pierschbacher becomes the second former Alabama player cut from the Eagles practice squad. Cam Sims was cut by Philadelphia on Tuesday, and on Thursday, he joined the Panthers’ practice squad.

Before joining the Eagles, Pierschbacher had been out of the NFL since Aug. 13, when the him with an injury settlement.

Pierschbacher had started at center in Detroit’s preseason opener two days before his release. Pierschbacher played the first nine offensive snaps in a 21-16 victory over the New York Giants. He left the game with 7:04 left in the first quarter. The Lions did not announce the nature of Pierschbacher’s injury, but he left the game after right guard Colby Sorsdal fell on the back of the center’s right leg.

Pierschbacher was selected by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He has participated in 11 NFL regular-season games, including three for Philadelphia in 2020, three for Detroit in 2022, and five for Washington in 2019. 39 special teams plays and one offensive snap have seen him on the field.

Pierschbacher was a member of the New York Jets practice squad for the majority of the 2021 season. After being cut by the Jets at the conclusion of the preseason, Pierschbacher signed a four-year NFL contract with the Lions on September 8, 2022. Pierschbacher was on Detroit’s practice squad for the majority of the 2022 season before being added to the active roster on December 10.
