Pat McAfee wished Nick Saban good luck in his search. On Thursday afternoon, Alabama football coach Nick Saban was not in his office, which is where he usually is for his paid, weekly appearances on the ESPN simulcast. Instead, as McAfee mentioned, Saban was on a recruiting tour in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Saban, like many other coaches, was thinking about the future just days after clinching a position in the College Football Playoff.

“I’ve got to do it. “I discovered a long time ago that I’m not very good at coaching bad players to play well,” Saban stated on The Pat McAfee Show. “So, getting good players is the key to the drill.” That is why we have come.”

Amari Jefferson, a great pass-catcher from Chattanooga’s Baylor School, is a key member of Alabama football’s class of 2024. Jefferson, a four-star and the state’s No. 3 player according to 247Sports Composite, committed to Alabama in August. When he was named Mr. Football on Wednesday night, he renewed his devotion.

As a senior, Jefferson had 74 catches for 1,401 yards and 20 touchdowns. He chose Alabama over Georgia, Tennessee, and other schools to be the 22nd-ranked wide receiver in his class. Earlier this week, Saban paid a visit to Dre Kirkpatrick Jr., another verbal commit and his first legacy recruit. The signing period begins on December 20, allowing high schoolers to make their decisions official and potentially join the Tide in Rose Bowl preparation (though they would be ineligible for the game).

The Crimson Tide presently has the country’s fourth-ranked class. It has 20 commits, including two five-star quarterbacks from Carlsbad, Calif., quarterback Julian Sayin and defensive back Jaylen Mbake from Clay-Chalkville. Alabama is ranked fourth in the country, trailing Georgia, Ohio State, and Florida State.

Saban is navigating the transfer site in addition to establishing his future roster. On Monday, two Alabama players entered. Saban has already stated that if starters are needed, Alabama will look for them. The Tide has a couple weeks before flying to the Rose Bowl to face No. 1 Michigan in the College Football Playoff Semifinal.

During this week’s AHSAA Super 7 Championships, Bryant-Denny Stadium is hosting many Tide commits, including Mbakwe and Saraland 2025 five-star Ryan Williams.
