Club owner speaks out after €10m Nottingham Forest transfer claim

Botafogo owner John Textor has addressed the latest news claiming the club had accepted an offer from Nottingham Forest for striker Matheus Nascimento.

It was earlier reported that Forest had improved their offer of €8million to €10m for Nascimento – the fee Botafogo were apparently willing to accept. Brazilian journalist Vene Casagrande said: “Botafogo accepted it on July 13 but the player at this stage, has not given the green light to the proposal.

“So for a transfer to materialise,Math eus Nascimento just needs to accept the offer. Behind the scenes, people involved in the negotiations have claimed that the player gives priority to Spanish football.”

However, Textor got in contact with the Brazilian outlet O Dia to explain his side of the story. He claims that Botafogo have not accepted Forest’s offer while adding that negotiations are “ongoing”, including with other clubs.

Textor reveals that the club are “building a plan for Nascimento’s future” alongside his family and therefore, decisions will be “taken very carefully.” He also highlighted that this is just the start of the summer window and anticipates other bids to arrive.

The American businessman previously said of the 19-year-old: “I have a personal commitment to the player and a promise to his family to show him everything that comes along and honour his personal choices, how long he wants to stay and when or where he wants to go. I told his mother I’d take care of his career.”Matheus Nascimento também rejeita proposta do Nottingham Forest
