Wolverhampton Wanderers have had a rough start to the Premier League season, winning only two of their first eight games.
Gary O’Neil was appointed to replace Julen Lopetegui in the summer, and the former Bournemouth manager has lost four of his eight league games in charge.
If their lack of goal production continues between now and then, the January transfer window will open in just over two months, giving O’Neil the opportunity to enter the market and add another attacking option.
Leicester City ace Kelechi Iheanacho, who may be a significant upgrade over Matheus Cunha, is one player in whom the English manager could rekindle his interest.
Were the Wolves after Iheanacho?
Wolves were interested in signing the Nigeria international before the summer transfer deadline, according to Football Insider in August.
Iheanacho, who joined the Foxes from Manchester City for a reputed sum of £25 million in 2017, was claimed to be happy at the King Power Stadium and that the club needed to persuade him to go.
Ultimately, the former Cityzens striker stayed with the Championship club and has been a standout in the EFL this season.
However, his current deal with Leicester is set to expire at the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, which could open the door to a January departure.
Unless he signs a new contract before the start of next season, the Foxes risk losing him for nothing in the summer if they do not cash in on the talented ace during the next transfer window.
