The latest transfer news as Birmingham City near the completion of a multi-million sale and hint at potential replacements
Birmingham City winger Tahith Chong has reportedly undergone his medical ahead of a transfer to Premier League side Luton Town.
The top-tier newbies, who won and drew against Blues last season, are said to be preparing an announcement for the former Manchester United man.
With four goals and five assists throughout 2022/23, Chong played a key role in Birmingham reaching 53 points – their best total in seven years
Now, though, he’s set to depart St Andrew’s with his “medical done and an announcement soon”, according to Sky Sport Germany.
It’s claimed a guaranteed £5 million fee has been agreed with the potential for Blues to claim up to £10 million after add-ons – a welcomed cash injection.
John Eustace would have of course preferred to keep one of his best players but he has been understanding throughout the process that this is part and parcel of football.
“It’s what we want to do as a club, we want to develop the player. When we sign players we want them to move into the Premier League,” Eustace told Birmingham Live
“We want them to showcase themselves and he’s done that – it’s all part of what we do.”
The sale of Chong follows 17-year-old Jobe Bellingham’s £3m departure to fellow Championship outfit Sunderland, causing concern over squad depth.
Birmingham have a fairly short list of players as it stands due to plenty of loans and contracts expiring, but Eustace is confident the right additions will be made in due course.
“That’s two players we’ve sold this year and it allows the club to bring other players in and help us grow. I’m sure it will be [reinvested].
“We need to bring in players so hopefully that will help us to do that,” Eustace continued.
