David Unsworth, popularly nicknamed as ‘the Rhino’ by the Everton supporters, was a fan favorite.

He came up through the club’s development system and made his first team debut in 1992, only months before the Premier League was established.

Unsworth established himself as a prominent member inside the Everton structure, and he played a key role in the club’s last major victory, a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the 1995 FA Cup final. The versatile defender, who could play both center back and left back, was recognized for his ability to score important goals and was frequently praised for his set pieces and penalties.

Unsworth briefly left Everton in 1997 for brief spells at West Ham and Aston Villa before returning to Merseyside and playing a key role in the team’s avoidance of relegation.

He left Everton to play for Portsmouth, Ipswich Town, Wigan Athletic, Burnley, and Huddersfield before returning as a coach in 2014.

Unsworth was the coach of Everton’s U23 team for eight years and also served as the club’s interim manager twice after Ronald Koeman and Roberto Martinez were fired.

On September 20, 2022, he began his first permanent stint in football management with National League team Oldham Athletic, although that ended almost a year later, on September 17, after a seven-game losing streak.
