Wrexham have found some form in League Two, and they are now fourth in the league.

Wrexham won the National League title last season and have only lost once in their first eight games back in the Football League. They are unbeaten in their last seven league games.

Over the summer, Phil Parkinson’s team was patient in its recruitment and did not hurry into any deals. They ended up adding some smart players like James McClean and George Evans.

This winter, the Red Dragons have the opportunity to add several new players. Here are three players they should target after being linked with them in the previous window…

Jonson Clarke-Harris

Wrexham investigated the prospect of bringing in the Peterborough United striker. “Wrexham contacted me and said they were going to make a bid, which was interesting,” Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony revealed on his ‘The Hard Truth’ podcast (quotes via Peterborough Telegraph). It may have appeared to be an unusual move for the player, but if they acquired him, it would almost certainly mean back-to-back promotions for them, so I could understand the logic.

“Apparently, Hollywood approved the move, but they then went silent.” They never got back to me, which surprised me, especially given who they eventually sought to sign with.”

Clarke-Harris, 29, joined his current team in 2020. Since then, he has scored 74 goals in 144 games across all competitions.

On deadline day, Parkinson’s side saw a late deal for the Harrogate Town attacker fall through. According to their website, they have opted not to contest the transfer.

If they still want him in a few months, the door will be open for them to make another swoop for him. Last season, Armstrong scored 16 goals.

George Dobson

According to London News Online, Wrexham considered a move for Charlton Athletic’s captain. He’d be an excellent addition, and enticing him to the fourth tier would be a significant statement of intent.

Dobson’s contract expires next summer, so the Addicks risk losing him for nothing if they don’t cash in on him now, presuming he doesn’t sign an extension. He has previously played for Walsall and Sunderland.
