Ex-Manchester City star a major Real Betis doubt for Rangers trip

Ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Claudio Bravo is a major doubt for Real Betis ahead of their Europa League clash with Rangers.

The La Liga side could also be without back-up stopper Rui Silva, who was hooked at half-time in the club’s 5-0 hammering at the hands of Barcelona.

Should both players be out of the game, then Rangers would likely face inexperienced Spanish goalkeeper Fran Vieites who toiled dramatically in the second half against Barcelona.

Being beaten from long-range three times in the game, Rangers will hope to exert massive pressure on Vieties if he is the man to play between the sticks for Real Betis.

But there remains an outside chance that Claudio Bravo – who played four seasons with Manchester City between 2016 and 2020 following a £13.75m move from Barcelona – could make the game.

That’s despite the fact Real Betis manager Manuel Pellegrini raised his doubts Claudio Bravo would make the Rangers game after returning to training this week.

“Claudio has just recovered from an injury, he has worked one day with the squad and I have my doubts if he will be there for Thursday,” explains Pellegrini.

The 40-year-old Chilean international stopper holds a huge profile for Real Betis and any potential absence would come as a major blow to the club.

Rangers will be hoping to take full advantage of the inexperience of the flappable Fran Vieites who toiled in the Nou Camp and who will be up against it at Ibrox.

The summer signing from Feyenoord was forced off in the 2-0 win over St Johnstone with a fractured cheekbone after bravely putting his head into to score the opener.

Rangers are also without another three first-team stars as the injury list begins to creep up again for the under pressure Michael Beale.
