Even when the transfer market is closed, the rumor mill continues to swirl, particularly with a team the stature of Celtic.

Ryan Bertrand, a former Chelsea defender and Champions League champion, was offered to Brendan Rodgers, TBR Celtic reported last week.
The 34-year-old, who has been called “top-class,” is a free agent and was supposedly a target for Manchester United, proving that he still had the talent to draw interest from major UK clubs.

The Hoops may take this approach, according to transfer journalist Dean Jones, even though it would be a significant departure from their transfer strategy of investing in young, up-and-coming talent.

I do wonder if they might look at that position in terms of free agents,” Jones stated [GiveMeSport]. But for the time being, we know what they have here.

“I’m not sure if Greg Taylor necessarily puts everyone at ease, but he is doing everything in his power to help this club advance.

“I think Celtic are in a really good position going into this international break in that they have the advantage over Rangers and they can now start to figure out exactly what they’re going to be this season,” said the author. We haven’t seen them in their best light, in my opinion.

Naturally, Celtic has dabbled in the free-agent market in the past. The hiring of goalkeeper Joe Hart has shown that there are guys who can perform admirably for the team if the proper person is put in the appropriate position.

Although Bertrand is 34 and past his prime, he could still be a viable choice for Celtic. Bertrand would be a good fit for Celtic’s style of play given Rodgers’ methodical build-up play as opposed to Ange Postecoglou’s gung-ho 100mph football.Romano rules out Chelsea reunion for Leicester ace Ryan Bertrand

Additionally, according to Fabrizio Romano, Celtic’s “top talent” has extended their contract.
