Coventry City news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss Mark Robins addresses his central defensive options following the arrival of Liam Kitching on transfer deadline day

Luis Binks might be excused for questioning his decision to transfer from Bologna of Italy to Coventry City this summer.

The highly regarded 22-year-old joined the Sky Blues last month to assist fill the left central defense position after Callum Doyle and Jonathan Panzo, last season’s outstanding loan duo, returned. However, after moving to the CBS Arena, Joel Latibeaudiere, who was brought in from Swansea to compete on the right, has began the season to the left of center Kyle McFadzean and immediately made himself a part of the back three, keeping Binks on the bench.

Then, on the day of the transfer deadline, Mark Robins spent roughly £4.5 million on Liam Kitching, the captain of Barnsley and a ready-made left-footed center-half with Championship experience. What does that mean for Binks?

“I know Luis hasn’t played yet and I am sure he will be feeling a little bit, ‘what’s happening,’ but he shouldn’t feel like that because there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone,” said the City manager, who encouraged competition between young defenders Doyle and Panzo who shared the position last season.

We did the same thing with Panz and Doyler the previous year, and things changed and began to work themselves out. Luis only needs to be a little more patient and try not to become angry, as doing so will make things harder for him and make them take longer. But there’s no doubt that he’s going to be pounding on the door because he’s such a good player overall.Liam Kitching: Barnsley defender signs new long-term contract - BBC Sport

“We have reached this first international break and we know who the squad will be. We must try to be the best we can be, which will just take some time,” he continued.
