Over the years, Barnsley FC has played against 6 players they detest (ranked).

Over the years, these people undoubtedly received many beatings from the Tykes.

There have been a few players over the years who Barnsley has simply disliked facing.

Let’s have a look at the SIX players that plagued the South Yorkshire team on numerous occasions over their careers. For whatever reason, some rival strikers simply had excellent days more frequently than not against the Tykes.

Parkin was a real threat throughout the years, scoring seven goals in as many games versus the Tykes.

Parkin, a big striker who played most of his football in the third division of English football during his prime, did all of his damage for Swindon Town against Barnsley.

Parkin scored all seven goals in six games for the Robins over the course of three successive League One seasons, including a hat-trick on the first day of the 2002–03 campaign—a game that Swindon won 3–1 at the County Ground.

Parkin also faced Barnsley while playing for Luton Town in the 2006–07 season, however he failed to score in five of his seven encounters with them.

Maynard scored seven goals in seven games versus Barnsley, matching Parkin’s goal-scoring performance.

In his first ever game against them for Bristol City in the 2008–09 season, Maynard failed to score, but in every subsequent game he did.

It began with a goal in a 3-2 away victory for the Robins at Oakwell in 2009–10, and it continued with two more goals for them, as well as one apiece for West Ham and Wigan Athletic. He also scored a brace in the season-ending match between the two teams.

That was at the height of Maynard’s career, but he subsequently fell through the ranks and even moved to Scotland, playing for non-league Macclesfield at his penultimate club.

Austin, one of the most active Championship goal scorers of the present, was particularly accurate versus Barnsley, scoring eight goals in 11 games.

He scored the first of them while playing for Burnley in the 2011–12 campaign, helping the Clarets to a 2-0 victory at Turf Moor. He added two more goals for them against the Tykes before finishing his scoring for QPR.

Among them was a brace he scored at Loftus Road in 2013 during a 2-0 victory for the Hoops. Eight years later, when he had a second term with the Londoners, he even scored against Barnsley for the R’s.

Due to his injury woes, Fryatt is somewhat of an underrated striker in the EFL. However, with nine goals scored in just 13 appearances for Barnsley, he was a superb goalscorer on his days.

He had already scored twice against the Tykes while playing for Walsall in League One, but he quickly followed them into the Championship after joining Leicester City, although only scoring once for the Foxes.

He caused Barnsley a lot of harm during his time at Hull City, where he scored five goals in four games, including a hat-trick in the Tigers’ 3-1 victory over the Tykes at the KC Stadium in 2012.

Bradbury, a former striker for Man City and Portsmouth, appeared to be at his best against Barnsley.

His firing as Eastleigh’s manager has just made headlines, but some 27 years ago, he scored his first goal for Pompey against the Tykes in a 3-2 loss at Oakwell.

He would, however, exact revenge later in the 1996–97 First Division campaign with a hat-trick at Fratton Park in a 4–2 victory for the south coast club. Three more goals for Portsmouth would come later in his second stint with the club, along with lone goals for Crystal Palace and Southend.

Cole, who scored 10 goals in just seven games, was the most prolific striker to face Barnsley. He had an absolute field day with the Tykes.

He made his first ever appearance against them with a hat-trick for Newcastle during the 1992–93 Premier League season, and he would return to haunt them once more two seasons later in a League Cup game for the Magpies, where he scored in both legs of the Second Round match.

Cole would later score five goals in three games for Man United, the first of which was a hat-trick in a 7-0 rout at Old Trafford in 1997, and the second at Oakwell on the final day of the 1997–98 campaign.

In-between that though he scored again against Barnsley but it was in a 3-2 FA Cup defeat in South Yorkshire as the Red Devils were eliminated in Round Five by Danny Wilson’s s
