Sunderland’s Scottish international striker has been signed by Southampton.

For most of deadline day, the transfer story was intermittent. It was false to say that the striker’s medical was a failure, despite reports to the contrary.

Ross Stewart, 27, hasn’t played since sustaining an injury at Fulham in an FA Cup match in January. He is anticipated to return to duty in about a month. In just 13 games last season, the Scottish international scored 10 goals.

Patrick Roberts, a winger for the Black Cats, was also a target for the Saints, who made an offer of up to £5 million on Thursday night. Due to Sunderland’s claim that the offer was much below their valuation, a deal at this point on transfer deadline day appears doubtful.

Soon after joining Southampton from Sunderland, Ross Stewart spoke with the club’s official website. I’m overjoyed, the striker exclaimed. Although the day has been quite long, it has also been very good. Finally, I’m relieved that everything was completed on schedule and that I can now proceed.

“Southampton is a really large team. It has been a Premier League club in recent years, and for me, coming down here to play football for a team that will be challenging at the top of the league is a huge challenge.

Ross is a highly energetic and clever athlete, so we’re thrilled to have added him to the group, according to Saints Director of Football Jason Wilcox.

We’re certain that this will be a terrific place for him to continue his remarkable form and progress over the last two seasons.Exclusive: Sunderland rocked as Ross Stewart rejects multiple contract offers; Rangers, Stoke, Southampton and Middlesbrough all circle
