Terriers manager Neil Warnock is keen to strengthen his Huddersfield squad before the close of the transfer window in September and has made Wiles a top target

Wiles, 24, has entered the final year of his contract in South Yorkshire, and Huddersfield are growing in confidence that they will be able to persuade Rotherham to sell this summer.

Huddersfield are yet to spend any money on signings this summer, with their only arrivals so far being goalkeeper Chris Maxwell on a free transfer and the loan signings of Delano Burgzorg and Tom Edwards

However, after a poor start to their Championship season with no wins in their opening three league fixtures, it seems Huddersfield are open to completing some late transfer business.

Wiles has established himself as a key man since breaking into the Rotherham side and he started in their three opening matches this season

He missed Rotherham’s latest clash against Sunderland on Saturday (19 August) with a hip injury but is expected to return to action soon.

The Millers currently sit in the relegation zone in the Championship with an identical record to Huddersfield

Wiles was a crucial figure for Rotherham at the start of last season, making 23 consecutive starts in the league before dropping out of the team in late December due to an ankle injury.

Since breaking into the first team in 2017, Wiles has gone on to make 193 total appearances for the Yorkshire outfit, scoring and assisting 17 times
