‘From what I’ve been told’: Key figure has been crucial in keeping 21y/o at Wolves
Wolves now appear very likely to keep Fabio Silva – and sporting director Matt Hobbs has reportedly played a key role in that.
Speculation has been rife about Silva this summer, after he impressed last season on loan at Anderlecht and PSV Eindhoven.
He played regularly and scored some goals, which is exactly what Wolves officials had hoped for.
Silva would be open to going, although he has said he would give absolutely everything for Wolves if he stayed.
And there is plenty of interest in him.
But it looks as though Wolves will not be losing the player in the next couple of weeks as things currently stand.
Wolves set to keep Fabio Silva – Matt Hobbs key
Silva has been discussed on the latest Express & Star podcast.
The 21-year-old, who made a cameo appearance against Manchester United on Monday, is now seen as a key player for Wolves.
And journalist Liam Keen went into a bit more detail about where things stand now with the player.
And he revealed that Matt Hobbs, Wolves’ sporting director, has been key in keeping Silva happy.
He said: “Wolves have made it pretty clear now that they don’t want him to go. They’re not interested in selling him. Not interested in loaning him anywhere. They deem him important for this season. A core member of the group that they don’t want to let go.
“I think Matt Hobbs – he’s had a lot of praise from fans – has done quite a good job, from what I’ve been told, of trying to make Fabio feel important. Trying to give him those assurances. Particularly with the uncertainty around the manager (situation). People that look after Fabio and surround him have been quite happy with the way Wolves have put that across to Fabio in the last few weeks and months.”
Good work by Hobbs
The indications right now are that Silva is going to stay at Wolves.
And that is great news, because Silva looks like he’s come back to Wolves a much improved player.
The youngster could yet be the subject of bids from other clubs, of course.
But Keen has suggested that the club would now only sell for an unbelievable offer.
Credit must go to Hobbs.
His efforts to keep Silva at the club look to have worked and now, hopefully, the team can benefit from a player with more experience under his belt.
