Nottingham Forest could be left frustrated in their efforts to sign Chelsea player Trevoh Chalobah. It’s believed that the versatile performer isn’t keen on a move to the City Ground this summer.
According to the Evening Standard, the Reds did want to sign Chalobah. However, despite the best efforts of Steve Cooper who has worked with him before, it would appear he’s not keen on a reunion with one of his previous managers.
Forest have added three new players to their ranks during the summer transfer window. Ola Aina was added on a free transfer, Matt Turner has checked in from Arsenal and Anthony Elanga has signed for the club from Manchester United.
More new arrivals are required though and Cooper would have loved to take a chance on Chalobah from Chelsea. The 24-year-old wasn’t in the squad as the Blues drew 1-1 with Liverpool at the weekend and his chances of regular football look non-existent.
Cooper rates Chalobah highly and he’s worked with him before during his time as the England under-17 head coach. He actually named Chalobah as his captain on seven occasions and caved reuniting himself with the player
This could just be a case of Chalobah holding out to see what else is out there. Ultimately, there is nothing wrong with that, although it might send out a message that the player perhaps isn’t right for Forest.
The player is very versatile and can operate as a centre-back or as a defence-minded midfielder. Having an option that can perform both duties in the squad certainly be ideal.
Chalobah has made 63 appearances for Chelsea in total. Back at the start of the 2021/22 campaign when the player was in the team, Rio Ferdinand praised the player; calling him ‘unbelievable’ for a performance against Crystal Palace.
Forest do look to be fighting a losing battle over Chalobah. However, with the Blues now wanting Brennan Johnson, things could change pretty quickly between now and the end of the transfer window
