We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Lucas Digne should remain at Aston Villa for now due to the lack of depth, but a move could be sanctioned if Unai Emery does not want him, according to Ty Bracey.

The Frenchman has recently been linked with a big-money move to Saudi Arabia, with The Mirror reporting in their print edition (4 August, pg 55) that Al-Hilal could offer Villa £25million for the left-back.

Digne was quickly replaced by Alex Moreno when Unai Emery joined the club and was relegated to a bench role in the last stretch of the season. Moreno picked up a serious hamstring injury against Liverpool in May and is not set to be back until September, meaning Digne started Villa’s opening Premier League clash in a 5-1 defeat to Newcastle.

Bracey claims that Digne “hasn’t done a lot wrong” in an Aston Villa shirt and that it’s “wise” to keep him for now, but he backs Emery to make the correct decision to keep or sell the 30-year-old.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I think it’s all a bit close to the Premier League starting back up. We’re missing Alex Moreno, so without Lucas Digne, we’d have no left-back.

“I think it would be wise to keep him on the books for now. But equally, it’s one of them where we shouldn’t sell him unless we have a replacement ready.

“I think he’s good, but he’s on a very big wage. Emery very quickly brought in Moreno when he joined Villa. So there’s obviously something there that he’s not happy with.

“I don’t want to knock his time at Villa because he hasn’t done a lot wrong, but if he doesn’t fit the type of player that Emery’s looking for, then I’m behind Emery at the end of the day.”
