BREAKING NEWS: WEST HAM TIPPED TO SIGN ‘HIGH-QUALITY’ DUO TO REPLACE MANCHESTER CITY-BOUND LUCAS PAQUETA

Danny Murphy has tipped David Moyes’ West Ham United to sign James Ward-Prowse and Scott McTominay to replace Manchester City-bound, Lucas Paqueta.

After losing Declan Rice, the last thing West Ham wanted to hear was another one of their star players possibly heading for the exit door, but that’s the case with Lucas Paqueta.

But Murphy made it clear, get the money for the Brazil star, then added with the new signing, Edson Alvarez, he backed them to secure the talents of James Ward-Prowse and Scott McTominay, which would then form a ‘really good midfield’, as he told talkSPORT (09/08/23 at 10:10 am).

What’s interesting with this possible Pacqueta and Manchester City deal is that the Hammers want to keep him, of course, but if they lose him, then they are trying everything possible to get the most out of the deal, including suggestions that they are trying to include, Cole Palmer in the deal.

The positive for the West Ham fans is that Ward-Prowse, who was relegated with Southampton last season, is edging closer to making a switch to the London Stadium.

The same can’t be said for Manchester United star, McTominay, as Murphy shared how Moyes can use his midfield post-Rice and Paqueta.Scott McTominay - Player profile 23/24 | Transfermarkt

“I am surprised ten Hag would be willing (to let McTominay go),” said Murphy. “He can play the defensive role, he can play the more pressing and high-up athletic role. He has got goals in him.

“Talk about his discipline with his defending. His work ethic is unbelievable. I am a big fan of him. I think he is a really good player, and if West Ham get him, then the fans should be really happy. I think he would be a terrific addition for them.

“I think West Ham have got a problem. Paqueta is a tremendous talent and he started playing well at the end of last season – whether West Ham fans like it or not, he can’t turn down that chance to play for Man City. The best team in the world.

“If you move it forward, so Alvarez from Ajax, McTominay and Ward-Prowse. If you got those three in, and lost Paqueta and Rice, then you are covered. McTominay and Ward-Prowse, then they get £175 million for Rice and Paqueta, then they get them in, it’s good business. Three players of high-quality.

“I have seen Alvarez. A silky and clever footballer that spots danger. Plays in the holding role. If you add McTominay and Ward-Prowse, then that’s a really good midfield.

After winning the Europa Conference League, you would have imagined that the West Ham fans would have been looking forward to the new season.

But that’s not the case, simply because Rice has gone and they have only signed one player.

Now, if Pacqueta follows suit, then it will feel like a new chapter for the Irons midfield that could have three new faces playing for it once the summer transfer window slams shut.
