Manchester United prefer to do a deal for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana over FC Porto’s Diogo Costa

According to Correio da Manha (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have ended their interest in 23-year-old FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa to concentrate on a deal with Inter Milan for Andre Onana.

David de Gea’s official contract with the club expired on 30th June and currently, he is a free agent and most likely will not be the club’s first-choice keeper come next season.

Hence, it is imperative that we get a deal for a goalkeeper as soon as possible with Inter’s Onana being seen as a primary target, ahead of other potential targets in Costa and Jordan Pickford.

There are many factors attributing to the advancement of interest towards Onana. First and foremost, Inter needs to raise funds through player sales and are willing to sell Onana.

Secondly, the player has already worked with Erik Ten Hag during their time together at Ajax and knows how the Dutch manager wants his keeper to play.

Anyone who watched the UEFA Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter must have been impressed with the composure shown on the ball by Onana, which has been missing with De Gea.

Ten Hag was able to recognise the flaw in the team’s build-up phase and although talks of a new deal were in place, it seems like the manager has had a change of heart and wants a keeper capable of playing out from the back.
