Report: 28-year-old star is now back in training with Nottingham Forest after promotion win..
Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Ethan Horvath has started training with the first team once again. The stopper played for Luton Town last season as they won the play-offs and reached the Premier League for the first time.
According to The Athletic, the 28-year-old has now returned to pre-season training after being allowed an extended break following the play-off campaign. Luton have taken the decision not to activate the clause to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.
Horvath proved an amazing loan signing by Luton in the summer of 2022. He quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper and made 20 clean sheets as Luton won promotion.
The American international signed for Forest in the summer of 2021. He checked in on a free transfer having left Club Brugge and made 11 appearances for the Reds in his maiden season in England.
Dispossessing Brice Samba proved tricky for Horvath at Forest. He did keep four clean sheets at Forest though and he didn’t let anyone down when he was called upon.
Horvath could now get a chance to sparkle during some of the club’s pre-season matches. Dean Henderson has been earmarked as the club’s new number one, but his move from Manchester United has recently stalled.
Forest face Notts County on Saturday in their opening pre-season clash. Wayne Hennessey will only return to training this week; with youngster George Shelvey also at the club for next season.
Forest stopper Horvath returns to the training
This is good news from a Forest perspective. It does t least give them another experienced goalkeeper for the pre-season campaign, whilst things are ironed out with United for Henderson.
Horvath will be champing at the bit to prove himself to Steve Cooper. He will feel somewhat hard done by given that Luton have chosen not to sign him and perhaps he now has a point to prove to them.
The player will return to the club buoyed following a second successive promotion win. Now, he has the chance to prove to Cooper that he deserves the chance to be Henderson’s understudy next season.
