The 24-year-old former Bordeaux forward is set to become a Baggies player after undergoing a medical at the training ground on Monday (31 July), to boost Carlos Corberan’s sparse goalscoring options in light of Daryl Dike’s long-term injury.

But the free agent pick-up is not set to be the extent of the attacking transfer business with FC Midtjylland’s aSory Kba, 28, who scored eight times on loan at Cardiff City last season, wanted as the manager looks to add more firepower.

According to Lewis Cox in Express & Star (1 August): “It is believed Corberan is still looking to bolster his forward ranks after Maja joined Brighton loanee Jeremy Sarmiento in Baggies colours, with FC Midtjylland’s Sory Kaba, who spent last season with Cardiff, a target.”

Kaba, who has scored once rdin three appearances so far this season for the Danish side, is also wanted by Leeds United, Cardiff and Watford, as well as La Liga side Las Palmas [UDLasPalmas.net, 17 July].

Getting the Maja deal over the line will be a transfer coup this summer given the financial pressures have been sending more people out of the The Hawthorns than have been coming the other way.

With Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday, former club Bordeaux, and Middlesbrough all linked to a deal for the 24-year-old since the season ended it will be a solid achievement for Carlos Corberan and his recruitment department to complete that move.

But with Dike potentially out until 2024 and Karlan Grant on loan at Cardiff City it looks like West Brom are growing in confidence and want to add to the ranks further

Landing Kaba as well, whose contract has a year left and looks likely to move on, would be a statement that despite the financial worries seeing a number of names leave during the window the club is still gunning for promotion back to the top flight.Loan | Sory Kaba joins Cardiff City | Cardiff

It likely won’t be simple to make the numbers work and overcome multiple Championship rivals for the Guinea international’s signature, but after a Sarmiento was brought in from the Amex and with Maja on the brink it looks like West Brom are finally making a run at strengthening after weeks of the opposite.

In other West Brom news, the club are set to get another financial boost with a “significant earner” about to be moved off the books.
