Manchester City are looking at alternatives to Josko Gvardiol to boost their defence amid frustrations over their negotiations with RB Leipzig, as per reports.
The treble winners are keen to add Gvardiol to their star-studded backline ahead of the new season, which will allow Aymeric Laporte to complete a desired move away from the Etihad Stadium.
However, RB Leipzig are determined to stand firm on their £86 million asking price for the Croatia international, who has been welcomed to City by new signing and international teammate Mateo Kovacic should a move materialise.
City remain in talks with RB Leipzig over Gvardiol, who is understood to be desperate to join the Champions League winners after an eye-catching season for club and country.
However, Manchester City have shown in the past that they are comfortable in walking away from possible deals if they feel they’re being asked to overpay – as was the case with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Harry Maguire, Virgil van Dijk and Jorginho – since 2017.
As per The Secret Scout, City are eyeing alternatives to Gvardiol and will move away from a potential agreement if RB Leipzig continue stalling negotiations
A failure to add depth in their defence would mean the Blues will keep hold of Laporte, who dropped down Pep Guardiola’s pecking order in City’s backline last term

Gvardiol is believed to be Guardiola’s number one target in defence and officials at the Etihad Stadium will be looking to come to an agreement to close a deal this week.
City begin the new season with a Community Shield face-off on Sunday against title rivals Arsenal, who beat the Premier League champions to the signature of Declan Rice from West Ham earlier in the window.
