Ipswich Town, leading Swansea in race to sign Arsenal man,as club face competition

Swansea City have joined Ipswich Town and Sheffield United in the race for Arsenal defender Austin Trusty, as per the Evening Standard.

Trusty, 24, played in 44 Championship games last season on loan at Birmingham City. He scored four times and assisted on another two occasions playing most of his games from central defence.

The American international spent most of his career in the MLS before making the move to the Emirates in January 2022.

Trusty showed signs of his quality in the second tier last time around and he is clearly more than capable of being a regular starter at Championship level as a minimum.

Despite only joining Arsenal not long ago, it is believed they are willing to let him go this summer on either a loan or permanent and there are currently three teams in the running for his signature.

Championship suitors Swansea City and Ipswich Town have been credited with interest, whilst Premier League side Sheffield United are also monitoring the situation.

A tough race to win

All three of the sides interested in Trusty will be hoping to pull off a successful campaign this season.

The Blades will be hoping to maintain their top tier status, whereas the Swans and Tractorboys will be hoping to push towards the top six in the Championship this season.Auston Trusty transferred from Colorado Rapids to Arsenal FC | 9news.com

That alone means no team as of yet is emerging as a frontrunner to win the race, but if Arsenal decide to let him go on loan as opposed to a permanent game time will likely be considered and that could give an edge to the Championship sides. Whereas, in a permanent deal Sheffield United would likely be the favourites.

It’ll be interesting to see how this one develops and what Mikel Arteta decides to do with the 24-year-old. But the Championship season starts this weekend so full focus will be on the opening fixtures as this week begins to draw to a close.
