Nottingham Forest could now reach a compromise with Tottenham over the sale of Brennan Johnson this month. Spurs are keen to sign the Wales star if they lose Harry Kane to Bayern Munich’
According to the Daily Mail, Forest speedster Johnson is firmly on Ange Postecoglou’s list of primary targets should the England captain leave. The Reds have already rejected two bids of up to £35 million from Brentford.
Tottenham are a bigger fish, however, and Forest could be keen to do business. Spurs won’t go as high as the £50 million that the Reds value him at, but they will try and find some middle ground with Forest.
Johnson enjoyed a quality maiden campaign for Forest in the Premier League last season. He scored eight crucial goals in the top-flight and his stock has risen considerably over the last couple of seasons.When Forest won promotion to the Premier League during 2021/22, Johnson was very much instrumental. He scored 19 goals that season, including scoring in both legs of the play-off semi-final against Sheffield United.
Now, it does look as though Forest are swaying towards a sale of Johnson before the window closes. The Reds aren’t desperate to recoup money but with FFP watching like a hawk, it would make things more comfortable.
Postecoglou is about to enter his first season as a Premier League manager. Losing Kane wouldn’t be ideal but if he does leave, it’s thought that he’d like someone quick as the focal point of his attack.
Forest could reach compromise with Tottenham over Johnson
Back in March, Clinton Morrison raved about Forest star Johnson on BBC Sport. The 22-year-old scored twice against Everton in a 2-2 draw and the pundit called him ‘excellent‘ and ‘fantastic’ live on air.
It’s no secret that Forest would dearly miss Johnson. His pace to burn has left defenders all ends up at times and last season he chipped in with some seriously important goals to aid the Reds’ cause.
Tottenham will be hard for the player to turn down, however. They have a brand new stadium and in the next few years, they will have ambitions of returning back to the Champions League fold.
It’s only natural that any player would welcome the chance to be a part of that. Ultimately, if Forest lost Johnson to Tottenham, it would definitely be easier to stomach than if he went to Brentford.
It would be great to think that Forest could still keep hold of Johnson. He is currently injured but still, he would take some serious replacing if the Reds do decide to let him leave this summer.
