Grady Diangana wasn’t involved with West Brom training at St George’s Park as he continues to recover from his injury, despite transfer rumours linking him to moves away, according to the Express & Star‘s Lewis Cox.
Rumours have been circling around Diangana’s future with West Brom. Still, Cox revealed the ex-West Ham winger was at St George’s Park with the squad, as he continues his rehabilitation from an injury he picked up towards the end of last season.
Cox shared news that Diangana was not training, as he was getting treatment. There is no time scale being put on his return, although it was suggested he is not particularly close to being back in training.
Speaking via the Express & Star youtube channel, Cox shared: “Grady Diangana wasn’t training. He was at St George’s Park getting some treatment. We didn’t get a time scale, but he’s not particularly close by the sounds of it.
“He’s continuing the rehab to the injury that kept him out of the back end of last season. We were told he’s worked unbelievably hard to try and speed up the process and try to get back.
“We did a report a couple of weeks ago about the potential interest in him so it was interesting that he wasn’t involved, but he’s stepping up that recovery and they’re hopeful he’s well ahead of schedule in that department.”
Regardless of what happens, he will need to be at full fitness
Irrespective of where Diangana’s future lies, be it at West Brom or elsewhere given the interest in him, he will need to be at full fitness. Clubs will not want to sign a player with an injury when they don’t know how long he could miss or the potential issues around it.
West Brom are supposedly keen on selling Diangana as they turn to player sales to help balance the books during a financial crisis at the club, and will want to make sure they get the most out of any deal for his exit.
Should the winger remain at the Hawthorns this season, which is entirely possible if the clubs don’t step up their reported interest, Carlos Corberan is sure to be keen on his players getting a full pre-season, at least as long as possible, to step up their fitness ahead of the Championship campaign.
Newly-relegated sides were linked with moves for Diangana recently [Leicester Live, 5 July], although nothing seems to have materialised yet.
In other West Brom news, one young gem has been given a perfect chance for his breakthrough.
