After their worst-ever Premier League finish under Erik ten Hag, Manchester United may be looking for a new manager this summer.

After leading Manchester United to their worst-ever Premier League finish and their elimination from the Champions League and League Cup just before Christmas, Erik ten Hag will be aware that his job is in jeopardy.

The FA Cup final between Manchester City and United is rescheduled for this Saturday at Wembley, and United knows that winning means they will have one more chance to play in Europe the following season. It is anticipated that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will decide on the manager’s future shortly.

Ratcliffe is not totally certain that Ten Hag will be his long-term coach, and Roberto De Zerbi is on his possible shortlist of alternate coaches, according to the Manchester Evening News. The Italian is currently looking for his next post and has left Brighton.

Following consecutive Premier League promotions, United has shown interest in Kieran McKenna, the manager of Ipswich Town. There are other people who are associated with the United dugout.

Given his extensive work with the Tractor Boys—his contract with whom expires in 2025—former United coach McKenna is also drawing interest from Chelsea and Brighton. Having assumed the position in 2021, this is the 38-year-old’s first experience in senior management.

Given his advanced age, McKenna presents a long-term prospect, but his two and a half years as a club leader—he hasn’t led one in the top division—make him a risk. If he decides to leave Ipswich, his acquaintance with Old Trafford might influence him in favour of United.
