Aston Villa may need to sell one of their best players even if they have just emulated Newcastle United’s achievement and qualified for the Champions League.
Newcastle United had an amazing 2022–2023 season, breaking into the top four, and now Aston Villa has done the same. As they emerge as the most recent Premier League team to upset the “big six,” Unai Emery has done an outstanding job.
But like Newcastle, Villa may be constrained by sustainability and profit regulations. They may have to sell someone even though they advanced to the Champions League in order to abide by PSR.
That may present the Magpies with an opportunity to sign a player they evaluated during the January transfer window.
In January, Eddie Howe observed an Aston Villa player.
Newcastle was looking to add a midfield player at the beginning of the season, and they were connected to acquiring Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.
Given that Ramsey is a “terrific” player and is expected to play for England in the near future, the rumour was extremely thrilling.
It was hoped that he would succeed at St. James’ Park, but as it became apparent that the Magpies could not pay him, there was less discussion about a move to Tyneside.
