The Eastern Conference finals opponent for the Celtics will not be known until this coming weekend, but it appears that the fans already know who they want Boston to face.
In Game 5, the C’s defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to end their series. The New York Knicks will have Friday off before they try to wrap up their Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers.
With a victory on Friday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indiana might force a Game 7, but Celtics supporters on Wednesday didn’t appear to think so, as they screamed “(expletive) New York” as they left TD Garden. Another group of supporters chanted, “(Expletive) the Knicks.”
These yells followed Boston supporters trolled the Cavaliers, whose fans declared, “We want Boston,” after the first round.
The Knicks may be receiving bulletin board stuff from Celtics supporters similar to what Boston received from Miami Heat and Cleveland fans. But Joe Mazzulla’s team has dominated the postseason, and they will once more be a clear favorite over any opposition in the Eastern Conference finals.
If anything, the chanting might give the Pacers even more determination to win Game 6 on Friday and salvage their season.
