After a successful tryout at Rookie Minicamp, cornerback Shon Stephens has signed with the Eagles.
Over the previous two seasons, Stephens (5-8, 173 pounds) led the country in interceptions (16). He played eight for West Liberty in 2022 and eight for Ferris State in the previous season.
The product of Bakersfield, California, led the Division II powerhouse as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Defensive Back of the Year in 2023 and was named to the first team of the league. The Cliff Harris Award, which recognises the top defensive player from a small institution, included Stephens as a finalist.
Similar to Quinyon Mitchell, the Eagles’ first-round selection, Stephens recorded a four-interception performance on September 9, 2022, against Alderson Broaddus. That year, he was named to the Mountain East Conference first team.
On March 13, Stephens attended Michigan State’s Pro Day and wowed the scouts. In the NFL Scouting Combine of 2024, his 4.38 40-yard sprint and 6.99 3-cone drill would have tied for seventh place among cornerbacks, respectively.
After his mother suffered a heart attack in 2020, the cornerback had to miss several seasons of NCAA football at Bakersfield NCAA, where he started his career in 2017.
Stephens is the cousin of Joey Porter Jr., a 2022 first-round pick and cornerback for the Steelers, and the nephew of 13-year NFL veteran Joey Porter Sr.
