BLACKSBURG, Virginia — The baseball team of Miami Hurricanes won the first two games of the series at Virginia Tech, but they were unable to sweep the series on Sunday.
The Hurricanes and Hokies were tied after four innings, but in the sixth, Virginia Tech turned in a masterful performance to win the game, 13–4, at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park.
With a six-spot to cap off the scoring spree, the Hokies (32-17, 14-13 ACC) scored in five of the opening six sessions.
Virginia Tech outran Miami (23-27, 10-17 ACC) after four innings of play before the Hokies pulled ahead.
Ben Watson, the Virginia Tech centerfielder, led the attack with three hits and two RBI, and all nine starters made it safely to base.
Carson DeMartini, the third baseman, and designated
Wyatt Parliament (4-3), a right-handed reliever, won the victory with two and a third scoreless innings while striking out five.
Herick Hernandez (3-7) of Miami, who started the game, was given the loss after tossing 4 2/3 innings.
The Hurricanes’ final road game of the season is scheduled for Tuesday at FIU. The first pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
