According to Jovan Buha of The Athletic, the Los Angeles Lakers are actively shopping the No. 17 choice in this year’s NBA Draft as part of a larger scheme to win LeBron James’ long-term commitment and surround him with quality in his final years in the league.

Because James has until June 29 to decide whether to accept or reject his $51.4 million player option, the Lakers are incentivized to act quickly.

This year’s NBA Draft takes place on June 26–27.On May 10 on “Buha’s Block,” Buha stated, “The Lakers are going to look to move that No. 17 pick on draft night.” They will have the opportunity to use all three of their tradeable first-round picks for the first time, and it’s a great chance for them to add players under contract or use one, two, or three of those picks to upgrade the starting lineup or the roster in general.

“I believe that the Lakers’ actions in the draft, their level of aggression, and the improvements they can make will play a significant role in determining LeBron’s future,” stated Buha.

According to Buha, the Lakers might take a few different routes. One possibility is making a huge deal for a star player like Trae Young, Donovan Mitchell, or Dejounte Murray. Another possibility is making a smaller move and bringing in another big man or a 3-and-D wing.

LeBron James Plans to Leave the Laker Organisation

James and the Lakers have a shared interest in keeping up their collaboration, according to Buha. However, that would depend on the team’s actions, from their draft day plans to their next coaching hire, as to how long that would last.

To be clear, LeBron James intends to stay and retire as a Laker, and the Lakers are eager to offer him any kind of contract he wants, based on everything we’ve written at The Athletic and everything I’ve heard.

Dad and Son in Los Angeles?
The Lakers intend to spend their second-round pick on Bronny James in the NBA Draft to fulfil his father’s ambition of playing alongside him, even though they are actively shopping their first-round pick.

Shams Charania of The Athletic stated on “The Pat McAfee Show” on May 10 that “from everything I hear, [LeBron] wants to play up to two more NBA seasons and the assumption around the league, and obviously, the Lakers want to bring him back.” Additionally, the Lakers hope to be in a position to select Bronny in the second round. They are considering selecting Bronny James in the draft.
