Keeping a close-knit group of players together—all of whom should be paid highly—becomes challenging for clubs.
The Cincinnati Bengals are currently in that predicament as both Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson are searching for new contracts after the organisation made its quarterback the highest-paid player in the NFL the previous summer.
Burrow became the highest-paid player in the NFL with his $275 million agreement, and although he deserves the money, situations like that create challenges when it comes to paying Higgins and Hendrickson.
This offseason, Hendrickson and Higgins both asked to be traded.
Although the latter hasn’t made much headway in those negotiations and the former was franchise tagged, Burrow recognises that business is business and that his players must act in their best interests. Even better, he backs them up on that.
“Those men need to take care of their business. I wholeheartedly endorse them. Each and every one of those guys has earned everything and more. “I’ll be there for them every step of the way,” Burrow declared during a recent press appearance.
“Whatever they believe will advance their career the most. It is up to them, their families, and their agents to decide. But winning football games is our goal here. We are a better football team with those two men, therefore I sincerely hope they are both back next year. Plus, they’re both awesome guys in the locker room. They will fulfil their obligations, but if and when the time comes for them to return, we will be ready to receive them and go on.
The Bengals and Higgins don’t appear to be close to coming to a long-term agreement, and Hendrickson doesn’t appear to be prepared to be around for as long as he would like. However.
