Hubert Davis, who succeeded Roy Williams as head coach of the UNC basketball programme after the latter’s retirement in 2021, has demonstrated an ability to assault the transfer portal.

As they try to add the right players to Chapel Hill’s squad for the upcoming season, Davis and the UNC staff seem to be particularly active on the portal this offseason. It appears that Davis’s most recent transfer target is also among his earliest this cycle.

Cade Tyson, a former transfer from Belmont, registered on the transfer portal about three weeks ago on March 25. Since then, a number of highly selective colleges, including the Tar Heels, have expressed interest in recruiting him. Following UNC’s elimination from the Sweet 16 tournament, Tyson and the Tar Heels quickly got in touch.

Tyson is scheduled to make an official visit to UNC next weekend, according to a story published late Thursday night by Travis Branham of 247Sports. It seems that their initial communication has sparked some mutual interest. Tyson is scheduled to visit Tennessee this weekend for his second formal visit.

Tyson’s involvement in the two universities makes sense given his affiliations with the Volunteers and the Tar Heels. While he played his first two undergraduate seasons at Belmont, which is only three hours away from the university of Tennessee, he was raised in Monroe, North Carolina, which is little under three hours away from the UNC campus in Chapel Hill.
