IT’S OVER: A 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard pens emotional goodbye message to tar heels

UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis almost doubled Seth Trimble’s playing time from his freshman campaign. And the 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard became a significant weapon off the bench for the Tar Heels as a sophomore, especially via his off-the-charts bounce routinely providing the team with momentum sparks.

Even so, it looks as though Trimble won’t become a junior in Chapel Hill, as the 19-year-old from Menomonee Falls, Wis., has decided to seek an opportunity elsewhere by entering his name into the transfer portal.

Trimble, a former four-star recruit who ranked No. 38 overall on the 247Sports 2022 Composite, confirmed the news on his Instagram account by posting the following heartfelt letter to his UNC basketball family:

NEWS: North Carolina guard Seth Trimble announced on Instagram that he’ll be entering the transfer portal.

As a sophomore, Seth Trimble saw action in all but two games for a Tar Heel squad that finished 29-8 overall, finished atop the ACC standings, and reached the Sweet 16 after earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, averaged 5.2 points and 2.1 rebounds in 17.1 minutes per contest. He shot an impressive 41.9 percent from three, albeit while averaging just under one attempt per outing.

He becomes the second Tar Heel to enter the transfer portal this offseason. The other is reserve big man James Okonkwo, who announced his decision last week.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heels, whose 2023-24 roster included a handful of transfer additions, have shown some interest in the current crop of players in the transfer portal but have yet to land one for next season.
