Jerry Jones, the Dallas Cowboys’ owner and general manager, may be one of the NFL’s most divisive individuals. He frequently offers his players and coaches perplexing contracts, which may put the team in an unpleasant position.
The most perplexing decision is allowing franchise quarterback Dak Prescott to become a free agent. While Jones has not explicitly stated that Prescott will be signing with a new team, he has hinted to this fact several times.
Jones can be stubborn in his approach to paying his great players, but considering the outcomes, it’s difficult to blame him. Prescott frequently tops the league in passing stats, but has yet to lead his club to a Super Bowl victory. Well, he has not guided the team to a Super Bowl appearance.
Whether this is due to Prescott or the entire squad, the Cowboys frequently show a lack of faith in their players by awarding large contracts. CeeDee Lamb, a talented wide receiver, is one such player who deserves a large salary. Lamb has responded to rumours about his holdout status.
Lamb told TMZ Sports that he plans to spend his summer relaxing, as he should. Lamb was asked about the holdout rumours, and he replied, “I’ll be in Dallas!”
Lamb’s demeanour appeared to be entirely positive, and he remarked that he looked forward to “winning” next season. He’ll be able to catch Prescott’s passes for at least one more season, but things might become difficult in 2025.
Many players may be upset that their teammates are being shipped off to other teams, and Lamb may decide to follow Prescott wherever he goes. That, or he may consider his failure to acquire a multi-year agreement as the organisation not taking care of him, and he opts
Lamb finished the 2023 season with 1,749 yards and 12 TDs. His yardage was only 50 behind passing yards leader Tyreek Hill from the Miami Dolphins. He was also only one TD away from tying Hill and Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. Lamb might be fine with not getting a contract this season, but he deserves one.
Fans have been plenty critical of the way that Jones and his son Stephen have gone about building the team in recent years. It’s hard to argue that fact when not even head coach Mike McCarthy and most of his staff are on one-year contracts.
Still, Jones is likely plenty frustrated with the franchise having a wealth of talent but being unable to reach a Super Bowl. Again, it’s hard to argue with the results, but these contracts issues could lead to a rebuild come 2025.
